The Most Wanted Gifts This Christmas

With Christmas just around the corner, the time has come for us to hunt for the perfect Christmas gifts for our loved ones. But, with our Christmas gift lists forever growing and family members becoming harder to buy for, choosing the perfect gift can be a tricky task. 

To help you decide the perfect present for those near and dear to you this year, we have surveyed individuals across the UK to reveal what we really want this Christmas, and it’s far from sentimental with one in five (19%) in favour of cash, bank transfers and gift cards.

The top 10 most wished for Christmas gifts in the UK 

As a nation of boose loving Brits who often celebrate with bubbles, a glass of wine or even a pint of beer, alcohol unsurprisingly ranked as the fourth most desirable Christmas gift to receive this year (12%). This was closely followed by bath and beauty presents (11%), food hampers (10%) and jewellery (9%).

The most popular Christmas gifts as voted for by mums 

When purchasing a gift for your mother, cash, bank transfer and gift cards were revealed as the safest choice with one in five agreeing (20%). Other popular gifts amongst mothers included bath and beauty products (18%) and pyjamas and robes (16%).  

Interestingly, despite all preferences mentioned, over one in ten (14%) mums said they didn’t particularly have a preference when it came to thinking about their wish list this Christmas, however, of those surveyed many (16%) were certain kitchenware was definitely their least favourite gift to receive.

Most popular Christmas gifts as voted for by dads

When asking fathers across the UK which Christmas gifts they most loved to receive, technology was the most desired (20%) along with alcohol (14%) and cash bank transfer and gift cards (13%). Dads were also named the least fussy when it comes to Christmas presents with one in five (22%) saying they usually have no preference. 

1 in 10 Brits say Terry’s Chocolate orange is their favourite stocking filler

The findings from Moonpig also showed that Brits even have a preference of what goes inside their stockings, with 14% of those surveyed saying chocolate was their number one favourite, and one in ten (8%) specifying that Terry’s Chocolate Orange would be their top choice. 

The nation’s sweet tooth doesn’t end there with sweets coming in second place (11%) closely followed by socks and underwear (7%) and gift cards (7%) as the most favourite items to receive in a stocking filler.

Methodology 

The data collected in this study was based on a survey of the most and least popular Christmas gifts and stocking fillers. The survey took place in October 2021 and questioned 1,007 UK adults.
