Introducing our brand new baby card range, inspired by our real-life lockdown superheroes!

Picture this. It’s March 2020 and most of the world is entering lockdown. Some of us are deep in concentration over our latest 3,000 piece puzzle. Some of us are drowning our houseplants in misplaced affection and too much water. Some of us are doing star jumps (or at least attempting to) in our living room with Joe Wicks. And soooome of us are doing something that results in a little arrival 9 months later...

Well, we’ve made a card range especially for those people. Wink wink.

As the world welcomes the first babies conceived in lockdown, we wanted to create a special moment for new parents bringing bundles of joy into the world through an unforgettable era.

With a nod to the people who have uplifted the nation, our Little Lockdown Heroes collection pays homage to those figures who are set to inspire generations to come, whilst hopefully bringing a smile to new families up and down the country.

We asked over 2,000 of our amazing customers who were the ones to keep their spirits high during those first few months at home, and did the cutest thing we could think of...made them miniature. Turns out nothing is more adorable than babies in little wigs.

So, here we have it, our little lockdown heroes!

Sir Captain Tom Moore

One of the very first names that came up was Sir Captain Tom Moore, the veteran who captured the hearts of the nation, raising almost £33m for NHS charities by walking laps of his garden before his 100th birthday. 71% agreed he was the lockdown hero most likely to inspire future generations and that kindness was the most important quality to pass on (followed by compassion and a positive outlook).

Marcus Rashford MBE

The superstar Manchester United footballer was recently commended in ‘The Queen’s Birthday Honours List’ for his unwavering commitment to feed vulnerable children through campaigning during the coronavirus crisis.

Our mini Marcus card features an adorable face with the words: Congratulations on your new arrival - your little man of the people.

Joe Wicks MBE

Everyone’s favourite PE teacher kept the nation moving throughout lockdown with the virtual ‘PE with Joe’ series raising over £500,000 for NHS charities. I mean, who knew star jumps could be cool? Joe, both our hearts and our quads thank you.

Our mini Joe card has a nod to his daily 9am PE classes, with the words: Congrats on your little hero… Enjoy the lively start to your mornings!

Sophie Ellis-Bextor

The songstress lit up living rooms across the country during lockdown with her fabulous Kitchen Discos streamed every Friday night. They were so iconic it left some calling for her very own honour! Aaand by popular demand, Sophie brought a special edition of the Kitchen Disco back on 30th October.

Our mini Sophie card says: Congrats on your little hero… Friday nights will never be the same again!

Clara Amfo

The BBC Radio 1 host used her time doing Live Lounge to connect with listeners whilst at the same time educating and entertaining audiences across the country, which earned her the ‘Face of Hope’ title by British Vogue. Clara is now setting the Strictly dancefloor on fire every weekend!

Our mini Clara card features: Your lounge just got a whole lot livelier. Congrats on your little hero.

And last but not least…

Our Key Workers

This special edition card is dedicated to the thousands of medical professionals, carers, retail staff, post workers, and countless other roles who kept the country going through an unprecedented period. We literally owe them our lives, and the word grateful doesn’t even come close. Thank you. 

The greeting on this special card reads: A little lockdown arrival - Here safe and sound thanks to our key workers.

Importantly, 10% of all proceeds from the range will go to our mental health charity partner, Mind, which offers support, advice and information to anyone with a mental health problem, including for those of us experiencing postnatal and perinatal mental health problems.

All outfits from the photoshoot were donated to Little Village: a clothing and toy bank for children up to the age of five, ensuring no child in London grows up without the essentials for daily life. All toys from the shoot were donated to Haven House Children's Hospice.
